Surf Relief UK, the country’s leading surfing charity, is raising funds by paddling surfboards across the English Channel . This is the first time a number of individuals have attempted a cross channel paddle for charity. To sponsor them go to: http://www.sponsor-me.org/channelpaddle2010
Five sponsored paddles will set off from Dover attempting to paddle the 26miles to the north coast of France . Given the tidal movement and channel currents experts estimate the actual length of the paddle will be 30miles – a 6-7hour challenge for those taking part. The paddlers are being provided with specialized 12ft Bennett Paddle Boards kindly donated by Aqua Sport International.
The aim of the paddle is to raise £5000 for the Charity’s Surfable project. This project provides disabled children and young people with surfing experiences through a network of surf schools across the UK . The money raised will give 600 children a unique and often life changing experience. Reflecting the charity’s aim to provide these lessons in all corners of the country the team is made up from representatives from Cornwall to Kent .
The paddlers will set off from Shakespeare Beach Dover on the 27th of September (weather permitting) with the aim of reaching Cap Gris Nez on the French coast some 6hrs later.
Surf Relief UK
The charity is currently running Project ‘Surfable’, a scheme which introduces disabled young people to the sport of surfing – for many a life changing experience – by funding subsidised lessons through a network of established surf schools around the country. All proceeds from the Channel Paddle will support project Surfable through a network of surf schools across the UK.

“Plod along the prom” is the first of what Age Concern hope will become an annual walk to raise funds for the services they provide for people in later life within the local communities of Bournemouth and surrounding areas.
The walk starts with the help of the Mayor from Pier Approach Bournemouth on Sunday 19th September 2010 at 9am, there are four routes in different lengths to suit all abilities.
There will be a few surprises along the way to cheer everyone along, so come rain or shine, wellies or flip flops, encourage everyone to come along and join the fun whilst raising funds for the community.
